Where exactly are your tax dollars going?

Last week, Sunlight Labs, a division of the Sunlight Foundation (a non-profit, non partisan Washington, DC based organization focused on digitization of government data and making tools and websites to make it easily accessible), launched an augmented reality app for Android and iphone 3GS phones that enables Americans to view where and how the 787 billion dollars from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act are going. Via Layar, an augmented reality app that overlays data points with your real world view, the Sunlight Labs team has created waypoints with recovery.gov contract data. This is what the App looks like in use on the streets of D.C.

From the Sunlight Team: 'If you have an iPhone 3GS or Android device you can install the Layar app for free and then search for "recovery" or "sunlight" within Layar to find this layer. The layer works best near large cities where you are most likely to find recovery contracts..'
