As a follow-up to our recent post about Chase Bank’s new iPhone app, I thought it appropriate to point out a similar service from USAA, a U.S. bank open only to members of the U.S. Military and their families.
While Chase’s version now allows you to deposit checks by simply taking a picture with your phone, USAA’s version had this feature since their August 2009 update. Additionally, since USAA is both a banking company and an insurance company, the app comes with features like an Accident Checklist – to help record details and file a claim and a Rental Car Locator. It also helps you estimate monthly payments when shopping for a new home or car.
It seems like consumer banking is finally catching up with the speed of communications. With apps like these spawning apps from other banks and related apps from companies like Mint (an accounting management tool) and PayPal (a money transferring tool), we may finally reach the point where standing in line at the bank seems as old fashioned as waiting for an operator to transfer your telephone call.
